MAS VILELLA CELLAR:
Mas Vilella, a traditional 17th century Catalan farmhouse in La Bisbal
del Penedès, has an old cellar with five underground vats, casks
and a press.
The present winemaking and ageing facility was built here in 1986 and boasts
all the necessary facilities for making signature, individual wines:
- A small unloading bay which allows for the manual selection of all the
grapes coming into the cellar
- 20 stainless steels tanks of varying capacities: from 200, 500 or 1,000
litres for micro-vinification to 10,000 and 14,000 litres.
- 175 casks of 300 litres. The majority (90%) come from the Allier and
Nevers forests in France but we also have casks from Hungary and Tennessee.
- Cooling equipment of 50,000 cfm for fermentation processes and temperature
control of the cask-ageing facility
EL VENDRELL CELLAR:
This is our main cellar, where the majority of our activities take place.
The old winery dates back to 1934 and used to sell wine in bulk. Our
grandfather established operations here in 1950. The cellar is next to
the local railway station because there was an underground pipe system
for loading the train wagons.
The cellar boasts the following facilities (distributed over two different
buildings):
- offices.
- bottling equipment: bottle-rinser with water-purifying equipment and
a bottling machine with a vacuum-bottling facility.
- Disgorging equipment for cava: disgorging machine, corking, sealing
and capping equipment.
- Bottle-cleaning machinery for wine and cava.
- Labelling machine.
- Stainless steel tanks of varying capacities¾5,500, 10,000, 20,000,
30,000, 36,000 and 39,000 litres¾making a total capacity of 4,000
hl.
- Plate filters.
- Cooling apparatus for tartaric stabilisation in young wines and cava
base wines.
- Underground climate-controlled red wine ageing facility of 150 m2.
- 300 m2 cellar for the cava ageing and clarifying process.
- Special disgorging facility for cava.
- Laboratory.
