This wine originates from 50-60 year-old Macabeu vines. Low yields,
the age of the vines and the harshness of the terrain have all
made this unique and individual wine possible.
Vineyards: The vineyards are located at Finca Els Camps, at an
altitude of 450 metres on the Joncosa del Montmell. The old vines
are planted in poor, calcareous, stony, loose-textured soil.
Varieties: Macabeu (95 %) and Xarel•lo (5%).
Winemaking process: Harvest is carried out from the early hours
of the morning until 11 a.m. to avoid excessive temperatures. The
grapes enter the cellar at a temperature of 15ºC, unloaded
manually from the trailer and crushed. Once inside the vat, the
temperature is reduced to 5-6ºC. Maceration with the skins
takes place over two days. Fermentation in French oak barrels at
16-17ºC. Subsequent ageing on the lees for 5 months with several “batonnages” to
achieve greater complexity. Bottling: May 2006.
Tasting notes: This is a wine with a lot of personality, strong
and complex, with aromas of fennel, ripe fruit, pineapple, citrics
(pomelo), and slight notes of refined, elegant oak (smoked...).
In the mouth it is dense, unctuous and mouth-filling. It possesses
excellent balance, refinement and elegance. Well structured, dense
and fresh with a long aftertaste. Citric and anise sensations are
notable in the mouth.
Serving temperature: 10-12º C.
Evolution: Can be enjoyed until 2011-2012
Label: We have depicted a traditional Mediterranean coastal trading
ship typical of the 19th century. The estate is on the Montmell
mountain range, the highest peak of which (Talaia, 880 metres)
has a very unusual tooth shape which was used as a navigational
aid by sailors.
